On the night of Friday, September 8, 2023, a powerful 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit Morocco at 11:11 p.m. local time. The epicenter was situated in the High Atlas mountain range, 72 kilometers southwest of Marrakech - a city with a population of over 840,000. The disaster affected more than 300,000 individuals in and around Marrakech, with the towns closest to the mountains suffering the most damage, and some being completely destroyed. According to reports from the media, as of Sunday, September 10, the number of fatalities was over 2,100, and 2,400 people were injured, with a likelihood of the figures increasing.
